I am Cosmas Mairosi, a Zimbabwean-born performance poet, now living and working in South Africa.I write and perform poems on a variety of themes to a varied audience in Southern Africa.I like to write about social real life issues. To me art has no purpose unless it appeals to human perspectives and sensibilities! When I perform I like to make music with my body, my voice resonates with the African drumbeat. I believe poetry was not meant to be written down in the first place, so I draw my inspiration from the daily rhythms of the African landscape.
I have been published in print, online(www.PoetryInternationalWeb.org,www.oneghanaonevoice.org,www.munyori.com ;https://bozza.mobi/cosmasmairosa and ovi magazine,Badilisha Poetry Xchange.com; http://bit.ly/nama1905) ;on ZBC , BBC ,SABC radio and television. I have been involved with arts organisations and arts development projects for many years in Zimbabwe and South Africa. As an Arts Administrator, I have held leadership positions in the following organisations :
Budding Writers Association of Zimbabwe(NEC- Vice Chair),Amani Arts Festival(Vice Chair),Arterial Network South Africa(member of Steering Committee), African Drums Poetry Festiva,Zimbabwe Readers Association, and Young Writers Caravan.I have worked with CHIPAWO and was involved in training the performing arts to primary school children in Mudzi. In June 2011,I presented a research paper at Tshwane University of Technology(TUT) entitled, 'Performance Poetry as an Art in Africa.' In January 2013 I was the Moderator of a Public Arts Discussion organised by Arterial Network SA in Cape Town.
I have never set foot outside of the borders of South Africa,Zimbabwe and Botswana ,- although my work is all over the world.- but I hope to change that since I am interested in cultural exchanges, arts festivals, fellowships and writers-in-residency programmes. My writing is not only limited to poetry, I also work my hand on a variety of genres.
